A little research into Lumb’s Golden Bale raised the question of what other unique weaves there are out there, and the trail naturally led to Escorial.

Escorial: Rare and Naturally Expensive
First, the Escorial sheep are descended from Spanish Royal Flocks of El Escorial (named after the Spanish royal palace of that name). Back in the 19th century, some of these sheep were taken to Tasmania, and thence to New Zealand, where the modern Escorial Group manages them.

Sheep, source of all wool
Escorial wool is produced by the Escorial Group farmers. What makes it great is the fibre. The Escorial fibre is highly elastic, which makes the resulting wool very strong and with a soft, light handle.
Woven by John Foster and Standeven, Escorial is something of a must-have for cloth enthusiasts. When you order your next AskOkey suit, inquire about Escorial.
