I am drawn to bring the subject up again. Something I’ve covered many times on my private Whatsapp Blog.
How should one choose a silhouette?
If you’re top heavy, the width of your shoulders should act as a “book mark” and the starting point for your coat or jacket fit.
Your clothes should be cut such that no part of your silhouette deviates materially from the width of your shoulders. One otherwise risks looking like an upturned Christmas tree. I know because I have this particular problem.
One’s coat must stand away from the body. In other words, it must not be cut too close to the frame. Waist suppression should be minimal, just a hint of suppression. The skirt should be cut slightly wider than one’s natural hips. Ensuring the top block is visually fluid from edge of the shoulder to the hem skirt of the coat.
The trousers must be cut full at the hip. Such that the vertical line which begins at the edge of the shoulder seam of the coat, continues from the coat skirt, transitioning seamlessly to the full cut trousers.
Similarly the leg opening must be fairly generous. The width at the hem or leg opening ensures that the trousers maintain a visual vertical line starting at the shoulder of the coat all the way to the hem of the trousers.
The resulting image is one of a silhouette presented as an uninterrupted line beginning from top to bottom without any sharp angles or deviation.
That, we call “ elegance”
