Building a Wardrobe

The word is “intentional”.

We’ve all been through that phase. You arrive at a certain point in life and discover the magic of dressing well. One’s natural impulse if you’re anything like me, is to consume as much information as possible. Usually through the internet and then proceed to “dress well”.

It is natural at this point in your journey toward dressing well to attempt everything you’ve recently learned. With the internet at our finger tips, we proceed on a binge at a fast clip. The danger here is, while you’ve acquired some knowledge even taste, the new hobby is approached in a haphazard manner.

As I myself discovered, one ends up with a wardrobe full of items which hardly make any sense in concert. As humans, we yield to emotion when we see something we like, or discover something new in menswear.

Planning Your Wardrobe

After many years of falling into this trap, I had to take a step back and start over. I developed a plan on a spreadsheet replete with building blocks. Beginning with tailored clothing (suits, jackets, trousers, shirts, coats). Moving on to casual clothing (denim, t-shirts, polos, knits) and footwear. With discipline, one then begins to execute the plan. In other words, assemble your wardrobe.

This approach calls for patience and discipline. Which means, it takes years even decades to build a complete wardrobe. It also means turning a blind eye to “sales” and “discounts” when the items offered are not part of your strategic plan.

Fortunately, we have been able to transform this experience into a web app such that you not have to make the same errors, learning at great expense just as I did.

That tool is AskOkey™ Genie which you all have access to here on the AskOkey™ Portal.
